Program Notes
Of the Three Short Pieces, “Raindrops on a Misty Pond” and “Moths in the Light” were written and performed by the composer at 13 years of age and reflect her love of impressionist piano pieces. They were her first works to be performed internationally, at the 2008 Beijing International Congress on Women in Music. “Galaxy”, written in the following year, was inspired by a stunning starlit sky over Akaroa Harbour, and a sense of wonder and melancholy evoked by the overwhelming beauty and distance of it.
