Eric Chasalow describes This Day Will Be as a “poem for flute.” A daredevil virtuosic showcase for a theatrical performer, the work alternates between a recitation of an original text by the composer and an angular instrumental line chock full of quartertones plus occasional multiphonics, often alternating between single words and single tones.
