Program Notes

Beethoven’s “Adelaide,” composed in 1795, has remained one of his most popular art songs and in the 19th century, the leading piano virtuosos of the day including Sigismond Thalberg and Franz Liszt also reworked it into a solo piano showcase. During the course of his career, Liszt made three different piano transcriptions of the song. One of Liszt’s transcriptions is the basis of this version for oboe, horn, and piano.
