Program Notes
Written when Chasalow was a 23-year-old master’s student at Columbia University where, in addition to composition, he was studying flute with Harvey Sollberger, ANTI-CHAMBERS is the earliest composition he still acknowledges. At the time, Chasalow was equally active as a composer and a flutist and the recording of this virtuosic modernist unaccompanied flute solo featured here is from his own performance of it in 1980.
