Brandon J. Rolle
Composer Brandon J. Rolle’s music is wildly inventive, incorporating psychoacoustics, sonology, and computer programming to realize deeply immersive sound worlds. Combining traditional and contemporary methods, his works employ a singular language that investigates points of connection between old and new, structure and chaos, perception and deception. His diverse output includes orchestral, chamber, electro-acoustic, and intermedia music, which have been performed at festivals and concerts of new music across the United States and Europe.
In addition to his own creative work, Dr. Rolle is a conductor who champions the works of living composers, and an educator with experience teaching both traditional and experimental music curriculum. Rolle is the co-founder and Artistic Director of the Impulse New Music Festival, a non-profit that helps early-career musicians develop the tools and techniques to express their distinct musical voice. An active member of the L.A. New Music Community, Rolle is Modern Music Writer for NewClassic.LA, an artist photographer, and part of the teams at Equal Sound and Brightwork New Music.
Rolle is based in Los Angeles, California where he is a freelance composer and conductor, and teaches a private studio of composition students. He holds a PhD from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and an MA from Mills College; his primary teachers Joel Feigin, Clarence Barlow, Pauline Oliveros, and Roscoe Mitchell. His music is registered with ASCAP and published by Precious Noise Music.
